About sail it forward
Hi! We are Pierce and Fynn Olsen, two twin brothers who love sailing.
We came up with the idea for Sail it Forward one day when we were sorting through some extra equipment we had outgrown. Instead of letting it go to waste, we wanted to find a way for it to get into the hands of kids who are interested in sailing but don’t necessarily have all the gear they need to start!
We love sailing, but we know it is a sport that can have a high startup cost due to the equipment that is needed. We hope that through Sail It Forward, we are able to have the chance to support other sailors who might not have had the opportunity sail due to lack of equipment. In addition, we are happy that our project also contributes to sustainability efforts in our sport!
When we first got started, we worked with our former coach (who lives in Cuba) to collect and deliver gear to sailing students in Cuba. Now, we partner with several organizations in order to get our donated gear into the hands of kids who are excited to sail!
About Fynn & Pierce Olsen
We are Pierce and Fynn and have been sailing Optis since 2019. My twin brother and I started sailing for fun one summer in 2017 and realized we both loved everything about being on the water and we knew we wanted to compete not sail for fun. Over time we moved into Optis and had the opportunity to sail for the National team and team USA. We travelled to amazing countries around the world and met new friends. We decided that we wanted to give back for all we had and began collecting our gently used gear and clothing to give to other sailors in other countries that don't have the means. We knew we were very fortunate to have the chance to sail, travel and compete. We began a nonprofit organization that raises money to buy or collect gently used gear and equipment. When we were at North Americans in Mexico, we began speaking to the R.O.P.E organization that also works on helping other sailors. We now also collaborate with them to bring gear to Opti sailors and clubs who need items to make their sailing experience better. We hope they can all have the same love for sailing and the water as we do. We also work on beach clean ups and coral restoration as we have one Earth and one Ocean. Now that we sail 29ers and Club 420 in high school we still work with the gear and parts for the Opti sailors and their clubs around the world. We hope that sail is forward can be a movement to help others give and share the love of the Ocean and sailing.
